NFL Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Contest
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
Nix, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach stated following the contest.
